My healing complex:

I've chosen the following botanical oils for their various benefits to skin and hair:

Coconut: Ferulic acid and catechins offer great anti-oxidizing properties, as well as anti- inflammatory and anti-itching properties. This is considered an anti-bacterial oil. Lauric acid and ferulic acid contribute to those properties. The polyphenols also help with weather and light damaged skin, and offer softening and moisturizing. Coconut oil has been studied extensively on hair and is shown to penetrate hair strands.

Cocoa Butter: Cocoa butter contains a high proportion of saturated fats, derived from stearic and palmitic acids. Improves moisture retention, increases flexibility of the skin, and facilitates skin damage repair. Forms an occlusive layer on our skin, a skin protectant.

This complex contains the following:

Palmitic acid : (Cocoa butter) Forms an occlusive layer on our skin, a skin protectant.

Palmitoleic acid : A building block in our skin that prevents burns, wounds, skin scratches. Most active anti-microbial in human sebum. Treats damaged skin and mucous membranes.

Stearic acid : (Cocoa butter) Improves moisture retention, increase in flexibility of the skin/hair, and skin damage repair.

Lauric acid: (Coconut) Considered a “healthier” saturated fat because it is a medium-chain triglyceride. As an MCT, lauric acid is more easily absorbed by the body. When lauric acid is present in the body, it is converted into monolaurin, a monoglyceride compound which exhibits anti-viral, anti-microbial, anti-protozoal and anti-fungal properties. It acts by disrupting the lipid membranes in organisms like fungus, bacteria and viruses, thus destroying them.

Tocopherol: (Vitamin E) sinks into our skin and behaves as an anti-oxidant. It softens skin, and adding it to oils can retard rancidity.

Phytosterols: behave like cortisone, offering anti-inflammatory and anti-itching benefits, as well as soothing dry skin (all oils).

Polpyhenols: have many different benefits, but many will help with anti-inflammatory, anti-itching, and anti-oxidizing (all oils).

My essential oil complex:

I've chosen five essential oils for their various benefits to skin and hair:

Ravintsara: The health benefits of Ravensara Essential Oil can be attributed to its properties as an analgesic, anti-allergenic, anti-bacterial, anti-microbial, anti-fungal, anti-septic, anti-spasmodic, anti-viral, disinfectant, diuretic, and relaxant.

Eucalyptus Radiata: The health benefits of eucalyptus oil are well-known and wide ranging, and its properties include anti-inflammatory, anti-spasmodic, decongestant, deodorant, anti-septic, anti-bacterial, and other medicinal qualities.

Wintergreen: The health benefits of Wintergreen Essential Oil can be attributed to its properties as an analgesic, anodyne, anti-spasmodic, anti-septic, aromatic, astringent, carminative and stimulating substance.

Peppermint: The health benefits of peppermint oil include its ability to treat respiratory problems, headache, nausea, fever, stomach and bowel spasms, as well as for pain relief.

Lemon: The health benefits of lemon oil can be attributed to its stimulating, calming, carminative, anti-infection, astringent, detoxifying, anti-septic, disinfectant and anti-fungal properties. Lemon oil is a good remedy for increasing the luster of dull skin. It is astringent and detoxifying in nature, and rejuvenates sagging or tired-looking skin. Its anti-septic properties help in treating pimples and various skin disorders. Lemon is also recommended for reducing excessive oil on the skin. Lemon oil is also effective as a hair tonic. Many people use lemon oil to get strong, healthy and shiny hair. Lemon oil is also used to eliminate dandruff.

Other ingredients:

Beeswax: Natural skin conditioner and thickening agent.

Lecithin: Dispersing agent for preservative.

Tocopherol: Vitamin E, this vitamin is lipid-soluble, which means that it helps in cell-membrane stability. The anti-oxidant content in Vitamin E protect our cells from the negative effects of free radicals.

Phenoxyethanol: Preservative.

Sorbic acid: Preservative.

Caprylyl glycol: Preservative.
